Abstract
Cytochemical reactions within the primary cuticle (cutinised layer) indicate that the lamellae are formed from polar lipids. The electron microscope shows that the lamellae are involved in wax formation and it is suggested that the polar lipids provide in situ precursors for the synthesis of cuticular wax. Keywords
