Abstract
Root growth of stem tissue cultures of a very short-day sensitive variety was induced by a 22 days pretreatment with short photoperiods whereas a 49 days pre-treatment of the stock plants inhibited growth of the explants significantly. No marked alteration of the growth pattern of tissue cultures of a short-day tolerant variety were observed under comparable conditions. Similar reactions occurred during the normal onset of dormancy.
