Communication correlates of college success: An exploratory investigation

Abstract
This paper reports the results of a two‐year study of college students' communication competence. Results indicate that communication competence is linked to success in college, that high school communication experience is related to higher GPAs and higher communication competence ratings, and that communication apprehension is related to perceptions of communication competence. Implications of these results are discussed vis a vis current theories of communication competence, and research directions are identified.
