Reversal of A Visual Preference in Octopus After Removal of the Vertical Lobe

Abstract

Normal octopuses tend to attack a black disk more often than a white one, when they are shown against a white background. The difference is not present with a grey background. After removal of the vertical lobe the preference is reversed and attacks are now more frequent at a white than at a black figure, when on a white ground.
