Abstract
The use of the terms FUNCTIONAL and NUMERICAL to describe the responses of parasites or predators to their hosts or prey is reviewed and their weakness when applied to population dynamics discussed. New terms are proposed describing parasite or predator responses, which are expressed in terms of proportionate changes in host or prey mortality caused by the parasite or predator. This should make it easier to determine the effects of parasitism or predation on the host or prey population, and so be of help in population studies on host-parasite or prey-predator interactions. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
