Control of uncertain Van der Pol plant†

Abstract
A recent exact synthesis procedure for feedback systems with highly uncertain nonlinear plants, is applied to a Van der pol plant with significant parameter uncertainty. This paper concentrates on the practical, detailed steps for implementing the design technique. Several designs are presented. One of them is a direct, fairly faithful execution of the rigorous design theory. The resulting design satisfies the performance tolerances bettor than required, suggesting a larger loop gain-bandwidth is being used than is inherently necessary. Several non-rigorous design modifications are performed, which decrease the loop gain-bandwidth requirements.
