THE GENUS FLEBOTOMUS IN CALIFORNIA1

Abstract

F. voxator and F. stewarti are reported from ground squirrel burrows in California, providing the first published record of the genus from western N. America. Complete, illustrated descriptions are given for both spp. The systematic position of the American spp. of Flebotomus having 5 spines on the distal segment of the upper gonapophysis (subgenera Brumptomyia and Shannonomyia and the vexator group) is clarified and a key to the [male][male] of vexator group is included.
