Pneumonia following use of nitrofurantoin was seen in 2 patients. Eight similar cases were reported previously in the literature. The pneumonia may start within a few hr. after the ingestion of one pill; it is located in the posterior bases of the lungs; and it resolves within hr. of discontinuing the nitrofurantoin therapy.
