Theory of Magnetic Resonance in Nitric Oxide

Abstract
The paper presents a theoretical study of the effect of a magnetic field on the lowest of the Π322 levels of N14 O16. The molecular Zeeman effect is calculated in detail and found to yield good agreement with experiment. Consideration is given to the energy of interaction, (a), of the spin of the N14 nucleus with the total electronic angular momentum in the external field, and (b) of the quadrupole moment of N14 with the electric field at the N14 nucleus. The last section contains an evaluation of the matrix elements needed in the computation of absolute intensities for the transitions within the Π322 level.
