Abstract
Recent experimental advances in knowledge of chemomediation and conduction of itching are reviewed. In the present study proteinases were used to standardize tests for itch sensitivity in normal and dermatitic skin. In atopic dermatitis the skin was found to have an intact hypersensitive nerve network, while in dermatitis of the hands hypersensitivity was absent and the nerve network frequently damaged. Testing of anti-pruritic drugs is discussed. Keywords
