Water Tolerance Test for Functioning Adrenal Cortical Tissue in the Rat

Abstract
Rats were fasted overnight and then given an intraperitoneal injection of water, 5% by body weight. The percentage of the injected water excreted in the following 5-hour period was calculated. Control rats gave values of 57 to 110%. Adrenalectomized rats excreted only 0-37%. Comparison was made before and after adrenalectomy of the water tolerance test values and eosinophil and lymphocyte response to ether stress.
