MEASUREMENT OF THE SUPERFICIAL TEMPERATURE GRADIENT IN MAN

Abstract
A method and apparatus are described in detail for measuring skin and superficial tissue temps. with delicate portable thermocouples. Data obtained from one of 3 subjects used are presented and include critical levels in the superficial tissue temp. gradient in the upper arm, forearm, wrist and hand; approximate gradient curves are reproduced. The exact character of the gradients varies, but their general type is that described by Bazett and McGlone. In the limbs skin temp. tends to be higher nearer the trunk, but shows local lowering over a joint.
