SERUM CHOLESTEROL IN THE RHESUS MONKEY

Abstract
The serum cholesterol level of 156 readings from 27 monkeys averaged 118 mg. %. 100 readings at various times of the menstrual cycle averaged 120 mg. %, 111 for non-ovulatory cycles, 126 for ovula-tory cycles, but no consistent rhythm of cholesterol level was discernible. During pregnancy the 23 readings averaged 91 mg. %, those taken in the 2d half of gestation, 80 mg. %; those in the first half, 110 mg. %. The blood of hyper-estrinized monkeys yielded readings that averaged 151 mg. %, almost double that found in late pregnancy or the early puerperium.
