On the validity of the distorted wave method in electron-atom collision theory

Abstract
The comparison of distorted wave and close coupling calculations of collision strengths for transitions in C III excited by electron collisions indicates that the distorted wave method is sufficiently accurate for many astrophysical and laboratory applications even for atoms which are only twice ionized.Keywords
