Frequency Spectrum and Specific Heat of a Face-Centered Cubic Lattice. I

Abstract
A Born‐von Karman treatment is carried out for a face‐centered cubic lattice using the techniques developed by Montroll. The frequency spectrum of the normal modes of vibration has been calculated. From this distribution function Cv is obtained. A power series in 1/T has been developed for Cv at high temperatures. An asymptotic approximation is discussed for Cv at very low temperatures. Numerical results are presented for silver; these results are compared with those obtained by Leighton and with experimental data.
