Abstract
Effects of polymyxin B and terramycin, used singly and in combination, were studied upon various Gram-negative bacilli isolated from patients with urinary tract infection. Polymyxin B and terramycin act synergistically in vitro against various bacteria encountered frequently in infections of the urinary tract. This synergism is manifested by increased bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects. This synergistic action is more marked with Escherichia coli and Aerobacter aerogenes than with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus morganii and Paracolobactrum. The clinical appln. of combined treatment of refractory cases of urinary tract infection with both antibiotics presents itself. Keywords
