THE SPLANCHNIC NERVE AS A SECRETORY NERVE OF THE GASTRIC GLANDS

Abstract
Two series of experiments were performed on dogs. (1) Acute experiments. On spinal dogs the splanchnics were stimulated either immediately (normal nerve) or 5 days after the section (degenerated nerve), the latter to make degenerate the secretory-inhibitory and the vasoconstrictor fibers. (2) Semi-acute experiments. The authors succeeded in stimulating degenerated nerves in dogs with stomach pouch, without the use of anesthetics. In all cases there was a secretory effect on the gastric glands during stimulation of the splanchnics.
