Abstract
The distribution and localization of 2 metabolites, lipid and glycogen and 3 enzymes, peroxidase, acid phosphatase and alkaline phosphatase of some cell populations in blood and bone marrow smears of young chickens was studied. A strong peroxidase reactivity in all stages of the developing erythrocytes was observed. Some differences in the histochemical reactivity of chicken heterophils compared to mammalian neutrophils were pointed out. The significance of species differences with regard to these histochemical differences was highlighted.
