Myocardium in Puppies Born at a Simulated Altitude of 20,000 Feet

Abstract

Histological studies were made of hearts of puppies born at a simulated altitude of 20,000 feet to a bitch acclimated at this altitude for 2 years. There was an increase in the length and diameter and the number of nuclei present in experimental puppies. The number of myocardial fibers was also increased per area in the study group. These changes were statistically significant.
