Abstract
Polycrystalline semiconductor materials, as exemplified by spray-deposited and vacuum-deposited cadmium sulfide (CdS) thin films, have been studied in the liquid-junction photovoltaic cell to determine the open-circuit voltage (Voc) and the power conversion efficiency (η). For the spray-deposited film cell (CdS/1.25M NaOH–0.2M Na2S/C), the Voc and η were found to be 0.6 V and 0.038%, respectively. For the vacuum-deposited film cell, the Voc and η were found to be 0.71 V and 0.054%. Both type cells have the anomalous increase of photocurrent with voltage under anodic bias. Keywords
