Abstract
We have measured the activation volume of Zn in Pb to be 3.98 ± 0.11 /mole at 600 K and atmospheric pressure and have measured the temperature and pressure dependence of the saturation solubility of Zn in Pb. From the solubility measurements we find a volume of solution of 3.1 ± 0.3 /mole, which is not consistent with purely interstitial or purely substitutional solution. These results are compared to other impurity diffusion in Pb.
