Abstract
A renal tubular anomaly that leads to a failure of tubular reabsorption of urate has been shown by others to be the cause of the high urinary uric acid excretion in the Dalmatian dog. The 3 drugs tested in this study produced an increase in the urinary excretion of uric acid in the non-Dalmatian, but failed to have this uricosuric effect in the Dalmatian dog. This evidence suggests that the action of these uricosuric drugs is to depress tubular reabsorption of uric acid present in the glomerular filtrate. Keywords
