Abstract
Inhibition of the aerobic oxidation of aldehyde by the Schardinger enzyme is produced only by concentrations of cyanide greater than M/200, and hence the system is not "iron-sensitive" [Warburg]. Larger concentrations of cyanide inhibit anaerobic oxidation and also destroy the enzyme itself. These experiments do not, therefore, constitute evidence for the O- activation theory.
