Comparison of Lennard–Jones and Kihara potentials in the theory of collision-induced absorption and dielectric virial coefficients

Abstract
From the measurements of the binary integrated absorption coefficients or second dielectric virial coefficients, the molecular electro–optical parameters can be determined, provided the interaction potential is known. A comparison is made of molecular parameters, such as electric multipole moments, calculated by using the conventional Lennard–Jones and more realistic Kihara potentials. The Kihara potential is preferable for the polyatomic collision partners.
