Abstract
A continuous course of reaction for the transformation of saturated 17-ketosteroids into aromatic steroids by M. smegmatis is described. An oxidative degradation of steroids of fundamentally the same kind was demonstrated in other steroids. The structural characteristics of the aromatized seco-compound is discussed in relation to carcinogenesis.
