Abstract
The specific dynamic effect of glucose is increased by giving thiamine with the glucose. Since thiamine stimulates the formation of fat-from glucose the extra specific dynamic effect after thiamine probably results from the conversion of some glucose into fat. When fat- is given with glucose and thiamine, the S. D. A. is no larger than without the fat. Since fat normally exhibits an S. D. A., the S. D. A. of carbohydrate is prob-ably reduced and fat depresses the conversion of glucose into fat.
