Polyethylene Glycols as Embedding Media in Histochemical Work

Abstract
Appropriately fixed tissues 2-3 mm. thick are blotted and immersed in 2 changes of "carbo-wax 1000" at 40[degree]C for 1 hr. each and then embedded in freshly melted "carbowax 1000". The blocks are enclosed in a petri dish and cooled for 15 mins. in an ice box. Mounted sections are dried overnight at 37[degree]C. Glycogen, fat, nucleoproteins, acid and alkaline phosphatase, oxidase and peroxidase are demonstrable histochemically in the sections. Blocks are preserved after wrapping in cellophane paper in an air-tight glass jar, preferably in an ice box.
