A conference on electron diffraction and crystal defects was held in Melbourne from 16th to 21st August under the auspices of the Australian Academy of Sciences, and the International Unions of Crystallography and Pure and Applied Physics. The conference was attended by 330 members from 17 different countries. Apart from the opening ceremony and two joint sessions, it was necessary to hold simultaneous sessions dealing respectively with electron diffraction and crystal defects.
