Abstract
The theory of spontaneous polariton-polariton scattering in a semiconductor is developed. This process gives rise to an interaction which may be interpreted as light-by-light scattering. For wavelengths just below the exciton absorption band, the polariton-polariton scattering cross section is shown to be closely related to the cross section for elastic exciton-exciton scattering. The particular case of polariton-polariton scattering in CdS is discussed.
