The CW coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectrum of the ν1 band of CH4 and its pressure dependence

Abstract
The pressure dependence of the CW coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectrum (CARS) in the neighbourhood of the ν1 band in CH4 is examined. The observations remove the apparent disagreement between the measurements of Clements and Stoicheff and those of Boquillon, Moret-Bailly, and Chaux. A qualitative understanding of the evolution of the spectrum with density is given in terms of motional narrowing.
