Abstract
Positions with an estimated accuracy of 0 .4 arc have been determined for the optical counterparts of 87 extra-galactic radio sources between declinations $${+19}^{\circ}\,\text{and}\,{-80}^{\circ}$$ . The technique used is novel in that measurements for 76 of the sources were made on the paper print and glass copies of the Palomar Sky Survey; these are shown to be quite adequate for precise measurements. While the present work concentrates mainly on southern sources, a number of northern sources has been included for comparison with other observers. New identifications are proposed for nine unresolved radio sources south of – 40°.
