Sludge from laboratory scale UASB-reactors under various operating conditions and sulfur concentrations was characterized by using electron microscopy and microbiological methods. The objective of this research was to evaluate factors effecting sludge granulation and the relationship between sludge morphology and sludge activity, measured as a function of biogas production.
