Abstract
Minor changes in sea level during the last millennium have been due to changes in the average climate, more particularly perhaps to changes in the average climate above the poles. These changes are believed to have been controlled by the amounts of volcanic dust within the atmosphere. During the last few millennia sea level has fluctuated with a 525–550 year cycle which appears to be caused by a similar periodicity in volcanic activity.
