Insecticidal Tests of Synthetic organic Compounds—Chiefly Tests of Sulfur Compounds Against Culicine Mosquito Larvae

Abstract
Of 68 synthetic organic compounds, most containing S, 24 equaled or exceeded nicotine in effectiveness against Culex larvae. Diphenylene oxide and diphenylene sulphide killed nearly 100% of the larvae in 5 hours at 1:200,000. Two new compounds were prepared, p-hydroxyphenylacetimido-thiophenyl-ether hydrochloride and phenylaeetimido-thio-p-tolyl-ether hydrochloride. The latter was probably the most; toxic of the 7 thioethers tested. It was effective against mosquito larvae at 1:100,000. Thiodiphenylamine (phenothiazine) killed the larvae at 1 :1,000,00.
