Conditioned hypoglycemia: Pseudoconditioning controls.

Abstract
Refutes the hypothesis that a previously reported conditioned hypoglycemia was due to pseudoconditioning. Failure of the 1st attempt to test for pseudoconditioning revealed that the injection procedure is an essential component of the CS. This problem was circumvented in Exp. II by giving all 24 albino rats 1 injection every 4 hr. and 1 CS with every 12th injection for 12 days. Controls received only saline; conditioned Ss received 5 insulin injections paired with the 1st 5 CS presentations; pseudoconditioned Ss received 5 insulin injections distributed randomly. On the 6th CS presentation, the test trial, all Ss received saline. Conditioned Ss showed a significant hypoglycemia relative to each of the other 2 groups, demonstrating true conditioned hypoglycemia. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
