Nach Cignolin–Anwendung an der Haut wird beobachtet, daß dieses 1,8–Dioxyanthranol im Gewebe des Organismus zum entsprechenden 1,8–Dioxy–anthrachinon (Istizin) oxydiert wird. Im Urin konnte Istizin, nicht aber unverändertes Cignolin, nachgewiesen werden. – Bei peroraler Gabe von Istizin reicht die Reduktionswirkung im Dickdarm aus, einen Teil des zugeführten 1,8–Dioxy–anthrachinons in das entsprechende Anthranol (Cignolin) zu verwandeln. After cutaneous application of Cignolin (1,8–dihydroxyanthranol) the anthranol is resorbed and oxidized in the tissues. The resulting 1.8.dihydroxy–anthraquinone (Istizin) could be detected in urine, but not the unaltered anthranol. If, on the other hand, Istizin was administered orally the quinone was partially reduced in the great gut to the corresponding anthranol (Cignolin).
