Theory of Nonleptonic Hyperon Decays

Abstract
In the generalized Sugawara-Suzuki model of nonleptonic hyperon decays all amplitudes are given in terms of three parameters describing the current-current "spurion." We attempt to estimate the value of these parameters by approximately "saturating" the current-current product with ½+ octet and 32+ decuplet intermediate states. Fairly good agreement with experiment is found. This seems to show that weak-inter-action universality holds for nonleptonic as well as leptonic decays and to indicate that the so-called "octet dominance" arises automatically.
