THE INDUCTION OF CORDING IN AN AVIRULENT VARIANT OF MYCOBACTERIUM TUBERCULOSIS

Micrococcus epidermidis secretes a soluble, heat stable, nondialyzable substance which enables Mycobacterium tuberculosis strain H37Ra, an avirulent variant of the human pathogen H37Rv, to grow with formation of serpentine cords characteristic of the growth of H37Rv.
