Abstract
Intravenous glucose and fructose tolerance tests were performed in 6 normal male subjects before and after a 2-day period of dietary carbohydrate deprivation. Four of the subjects fasted and the other 2 ate a carbohydrate-free diet for the 2-day period. The administered glucose disappeared from the blood at a diminished rate after carbohydrate deprivation while the rate of removal of fructose was unchanged. These results afford further evidence of a difference in the metabolism of glucose and fructose in man. This publication has 20 references indexed in Scilit:
