Abstract
Measurements are reported of the absorption, emission, and excitation spectra of Eu3+ in Y2O3, and also of fluorescence lifetime and quantum efficiency. An approximate level scheme is given. Conditions for laser action are calculated, and the results of a laser experiment are described. The importance of a strong ultraviolet excitation band probably corresponding to transitions from f‐electron to d‐electron levels is indicated. Keywords
