Abstract
The problems surrounding "macroscopic" epidemiologic studies of coronary heart disease using vital statistics based on death certificate information are discussed. The authors point out that these problems are too great at present to accept them at face value. Detailed intimate study of adequate population groups is, however, possible and more fruitful. The requirements for such epidemiologic studies are set forth and discussed. Keywords
