At the time of his premature death earlier this year F. P. Cooper was finalizing for publication in Past and Present his article on “In Search of Agrarian Capitalism”. Doubtless had he lived he would have made various alternations in text. Nonetheless we are pleased to publish, with the kind consent of his widow, this important conribution to historical studies as it stood when the author died.
