Abstract
Cross sections are found for nitrogen and singly ionized nitrogen in their ground states. Our results indicate that the screening of the nucleus has a negligible effect upon the nitrogen-ion cross sections. The inclusion of polarization and exchange forces in the analysis reduces the cross sections of the nitrogen atom by approximately an order of magnitude. Keywords
