Abstract
Recent observations of the adsorption of oxygen on nickel are interpreted in terms of double scattering processes instead of the single scattering mechanism which has been used in all previous interpretations. This permits a simple explanation of the observed variation of the intensity of the diffraction pattern with electron energy and provides a plausible understanding of the early stages of adsorption. Keywords
