Internuclear dependence of the polarizability ofN2

Abstract

The dependence of the polarizabilities ${\alpha }_0\mathrm{}\left(R\right)\mathrm{}$ and ${\alpha }_2\mathrm{}\left(R\right)\mathrm{}$ [or equivalently ${\alpha }_{\parallel }\mathrm{}\left(R\right)\mathrm{}$, ${\alpha }_{\perp }\mathrm{}\left(R\right)\mathrm{}$] on the internuclear separation $R$ has been synthesized for the ${\mathrm{N}}_2$ molecule in its ground (${\Sigma }_g^{+}$) state. The significance of this dependence for a previous calculation of $e$-${\mathrm{N}}_2$ vibrational excitation is indicated.
