Extracts of spadix of Arum maculatum were found to decarboxylate 14C-labelled valine. Carbon dioxide production was largely suppressed by semicarbazide and by hydroxylamine. The product of decarboxylation was identified as isobutylamine by chromatography and autoradiography.
