Monocyclopentadienyltitanium(III) compounds. I. Halides and their tetrahydrofuran complexes

Abstract

The halides of rnonocyclopentadienyItitanium(~~~) with the general formula cpTiXz (where X = C1, Br, and I ; and cp = T-cyclopentadienyl) have been prepared by pyrolysis from their tetrahydrofuran complexes (cpTiXz,THF). The THF com- plexes were prepared from the appropriate cyclopentadienyltitanium(~v) trihalide by reduction in THF. They are believed to be monomers of the form shown below, involving a pseudo-tetrahedral stereochemistry about the central titanium atom:
