Reactions of thermal energy ions. Part 4.—Ion-molecule reactions in ammonia and hydrazine

Abstract
The formation of the NH+ 4 ion in the high-pressure mass spectrum of ammonia is the result of the two reactions: [graphic omitted]. Their rate constants have been measured at zero field strength using pulsed techniques and at a constant repeller voltage of 10.5 V/cm field strength. Values obtained for k1 and k2(in molecule–1 cm3 sec–1) are 7.7 × 10–10 and 5.1 × 10–10 respectively at 10.5 V/cm, and 5.2 × 10–10 and 8.4 × 10–10 respectively at thermal energies. For hydrazine the ion N2H+ 5 is the result of at least two reactions, viz., [graphic omitted]. The rate constants for these reactions are k9= 5.5 × 10–10 and k10= 3.8 × 10–10 at 10.5 V/cm, and k9= 1.4 × 10–10 and k10= 1.0 × 10–10 at thermal energies.
