Abstract
This article, the last of the series, deals with the properties of the solid surface, and with the influence of impurities and flaws on certain volume characteristics. There has been very little theoretical work in these fields on the basis of the modern views. Consequently, a considerable part of what we shall say will be more or less speculative. We present these ideas in the hope that they may be suggestive, and caution the reader against embracing them uncritically. Keywords
