Partial Separation of the Plastid Pigments by Paper Chromatography

Abstract
2-dimensional paper chromatography was used to separate the plastid pigments into the following fractions carotenes, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, xanthophylls, and an unknown pigment (neoxanthin?). Whatman no. 1 filter paper was used, and the solvents were: acetone, Skelly-B (pet. ether), n-propanol, and chloroform.
